Digital Imaging
This course is an introduction to digital photography and image manipulation and covers image capturing, editing, creating images as well as simple animation techniques. We discuss the differences between "bmp", "gif", "jpg", "avi" and "mpg" file formats. The students create static image files as well as "flash" files for use on web pages. We also discuss file resolution and download times with respect to web pages and get an introduction to simple actionScripting.

Class Preparation
Each student is responsible for carefully and thoroughly reading and/or completing all assigned material before the next class.
If a student misses a class session, it is his/her responsibility to find out about the material covered and any assignments given from their classmates.
Assignments
“In class” assignments are due before the end of the class session. In most cases you do not need to turn them in. The instructor will check that the student has done the work.
“Out of class” assignments are given a specific due date. Late assignments will not be accepted unless prior arrangements have been made, or there is a verifiable emergency.
Quizzes
There will usually be quizzes every Friday.
Quizzes will be closed book but personal notes will be allowed. The computers will be on but access to the internet and other resources may be restricted.
All quizzes must be completed within the class session.
There may be additional surprise quizzes given if class participation levels are low, at the discretion of the instructor.
Participation and Attendance
You are expected to attend every session
You are expected to be prepared for each class by reading the assigned chapters and being prepared to ask questions and provide answers.
During the class session you are expected to be working only on class work. “Surfing the Net” will not be allowed. If you’re caught doing non-class activities you will be considered absent for that class.
Grading and Evaluation
Grading will be based on the following:
Attendance/Participation: 15%
Assignments/Quizzes: 25%
Photoshop Project: 15%
Flash Project: 45%
Grading
100 - 90% => A
89 - 80% => B
79 - 70% => C
69 - 60% => D
59 - 00% => F
RTC policy on grades, graduation, cooperative education:
“In order to be eligible for Cooperative Education Status the student must have passed every 7 or more credit course with a grade of “C” (70% and above) or better. There can be no grades of “F” (59% or less) in any course.”
“Please note that instructors will not assign additional projects/tests as a way to improve grades after the quarter is over. This practice does not encourage proper working habits in our students and as an institution we wouldn't be able to show consistency and fairness to all students.”
“In order to receive a Certificate of Completion for Computer Science a student must maintain an average of “C” (70% and above) or better for the program. Students must earn a grade of at least “C” in designated courses (all 7 credit courses for Computer Science).” (This is stated on page 28 of the current catalog and in RTC procedure 21005.033.)
Academic Integrity/Plagiarism:
Integrity is expected of every student in all academic work. The guiding principle of academic integrity is that students submitted work must be the student’s own. Students engaging in academic dishonesty diminish their education. This includes all forms of academic dishonesty, including but not limited to: Cheating, plagiarism and submitting an assignment or other work and falsely representing it as his/her own. Whether that work comes from another student enrolled at RTC or from someone outside the college.
Anyone found submitting work done by another will receive a 0 for the assignment, and anyone allowing their work to be copied will also receive a 0 for the assignment. Repeat offenders will receive a failing grade for the course.
